BGS 2025: Devolver had a limited but still extremely quality showing

At this point, it wouldn’t be a Brasil Game Show without the presence of the ever personable Devolver Digital, and they’ve certainly made their presence felt at the show. With a booth styled after a typical fruit stand found in the streets of Sao Paulo, where BGS takes place, this class act of a publisher brought by a small handful of games that proved to be pretty great.

Starting off with Skate Story, which is slated to come out on December 8th, a game where you do some of the sickest skateboard tricks while wheeling about in Hell, and is a whole bunch of fun thanks to an intuitive and frankly familiar control scheme in the vein of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.

The unique visual style of the game certainly gives it plenty of personality, too, as it features a skater made out of glass, which let me say, was shattered repeatedly as I crashed their poor face into spikes before getting into its groove and nailing oilies left and right. The demo was pretty much the tutorial portion of the full thing but it was enough to get me extremely excited about playing the final version in a month or so.

Skate Story looks and plays fantastically!

Forestrike is the other one that was available for play there. Having had a very limited session during Gamescom Latam, I was very interested in checking it out again. It made quite an impression in the extremely small amount of time I spent playing it there. Funnily enough, that wording is especially ironic given that both events take place in the same venue, but you can catch my drift: regardless of my attempt at humor, Forestrike really delivered.

In it, you play as a wayward warrior making his way to the Capital. He’s adept in a type of pre-battle premonition where he can plan out his moves before actually engaging in fist fights with enemies which gives Forestrike a sense of being more of a tactics game than actually a brawler. The retro-inspired aesthetics help give it somewhat of a misleading aura of simplicity, but it is anything but simple, giving you plenty of tools to get into the thick of it and coming out with style. It’ll be out November 17th.

OOF!!

Both games are into the wheelhouse of Devolver, as they provide very gripping gameplay and presentations, which coupled with the presence of BALL x PIT, which I’m currently working on a review of, is a sum of what that publishing label is all about, one that I’ve been happily covering its releases for well over ten years at this point. Without an E3, events like BGS are a great opportunity for me to pop by and see their wares, and I’ve yet to come out unimpressed by their extremely dedicated curation of releases, this latest one being no exception. Watch this space for more coverage as their games get released in the coming months.
