Neva: Prologue is simply another hour’s worth of Neva with all that entails. This DLC covers the events that led Alba and the wolf Neva to meet as well as their first encounter with the malevolent force the duo clashes with throughout the main game. It’s very much like the first leg of the game where you’re protecting the young wolf from monsters, occasionally working in tandem to traverse the forest and the ruins that lie within. The primary difference is that the wolf is more guarded and hesitant around Alba. It’s quick to warm up, but it’s a good inversion of their dynamic given how much the prologue mimics the start of Neva proper.

The prologue assumes you’ve finished the main game as the number of enemies thrown at you in battle is comparable to the odds you face at the late-game. Neva wasn’t an especially challenging game on the whole and neither is the prologue, but it still demands enough attention to at least be satisfying. The big set-pieces of this DLC – a couple chase sequences broken up by a brief stealth interlude and the final battle – are notable in that regard for how well they leverage the movement and action to create worthy spectacles.
As an excuse to see more Neva and its enchanting art, the prologue is a fine addition. Its short length doesn’t give it much room to be more than another sample of Neva, but spending more time in its gorgeous world and hanging with a cute wolf sounds like a good time, Neva: Prologue is worth a look.
